Important: New Annual Asylum Fee
Congress has created a $100 yearly fee for people with asylum cases still pending in immigration court (EOIR).
Do I have to pay now?
- There is no September 30, 2025 deadline!
- The court should give notice and time to pay, but there is no guarantee.
- To be extra safe, you can pay now through EOIR’s online payment system: EOIR Payment Portal
If you pay now:
- Choose “Asylum Application” and pay $100.
- Keep the receipt and bring it to court.
There’s a chance the court may later issue a separate invoice for the official annual fee. If that happens, you might have to pay again.
What’s the best option?
Most people are waiting for the court’s official instructions.
But note: some judges are misinterpreting the law or using it as another excuse to deny cases.
If you are very concerned, you can pay now to protect yourself — just know it may not yet count as the official annual fee.
Remain Clam and be careful!
Do not rely on social media rumors. Much of what circulates comes from notarios or other unreliable sources. Always rely on:
- Official EOIR or USCIS notices
- Trusted legal organizations (like ASAP, ILRC)
- Your attorney
Bottom line: Stay calm. The fee exists, but you will not be left without a way to pay. If you decide to pay early, save the receipt and show it in court.
